Poolse delegatie in Zuid-Afrika voor op Euro 2012
 
Een groep van Euro 2012 organisatoren van de westelijke stad Poznan hebben 10 dagen in Zuid-Afrika doorgebracht tijdens de World Cup om know-how te winnen in de wedstrijdorganisatie en de veiligheid.

Het vijf man tellende team heeft zes dagen doorgebracht in Johannesburg als officiële waarnemers in een speciaal programma georganiseerd door de FIFA tijdens het WK-toernooi. De groep heeft ook stadions in Kaapstad en Rustenburg bezocht om de organisatie van het toezicht op wedstrijden in de speelsteden te bekijken.

"We waren in staat om het toernooi vanuit twee invalshoeken te observeren, zowel vanuit de officiële FIFA-perspectief en vanuit het gemeentelijke oogpunt," vertelde het hoofd van de Poznan delegatie, Michal Prymus aan de media.
 
Prymus, die een vertegenwoordiger is van de Poznan autoriteiten en verantwoordelijk voor Euro 2012 in de westelijke stad, onderstreept dat de delegatie in staat was know-how op te pikken in de manier, hoe de fans te behandelen, evenals kennis in, alsmede het omgaan met media en vrijwilligers.
 
"Veiligheid is een belangrijk onderwerp in Zuid-Afrika," verklaarde Prymus, zeggen echter dat "het niet altijd uitgevoerd werd als we hadden gewild, maar sommige ideeën waren goed en interessant."
 
Het hoofd van Euro 2012 in Poznan was snel in het vertellen over de verschillen tussen de organisatie van de World Cup en het Euro 2012 toernooi.

"Het WK begint met 32 teams, er zijn 64 wedstrijden gespeeld in 10 steden," zegt  Prymus, opmerkend dat "het is een enorme logistieke onderneming omdat de teams niet vastgepind zaten in één stad."

Polen zal twee play-off-groepen ontvangen in het Euro 2012 toernooi, met elke groep verder verdeeld tussen twee steden. "Vanuit onze primaire analyse, zal Poznan worden gekoppeld aan Gdansk, met Warschau aangesloten met Wroclaw," zei Michal Prymus.

Ofschoon de organisatie van het wereldkampioenschap voetbal in Zuid-Afrika op een zeer hoog niveau was, concludeert Prymus dat de stad Poznan vooral zal putten uit de ervaring van de UEFA EURO toernooi in Oostenrijk en Zwitserland in 2008 en het WK voetbal in Duitsland die in 2006 plaatsvonden.

Polish delegation in South Africa ahead of Euro 2012

A group of Euro 2012 organisers from the western city of Poznan spent 10 days in South Africa during the World Cup to gain know-how in match organisation and safety.

The five-man team spent 6 days in Johannesburg as offical observers in a special programme organised by FIFA during the World Cup tournament. The group also visited stadiums in Cape Town and Rustenburg to monitor the organisation of matches in the host cities.

“We were able to observe the tournament from two angles, both from the official FIFA perspective and from the municipal point of view,” head of the Poznan delegation, Michal Prymus told media.

Prymus, who is a representative of the Poznan authorities and in charge of Euro 2012 in the western city, underlined that the delegation was able to pick up know-how in how to handle fans, as well as become knowledgable in safety operations, as well as handling media and volunteer workers.

“Safety was a key issue in South Africa,” Prymus stated, saying however that “it was not always conducted as we would have liked, but some ideas were good and interesting.”

The head of Euro 2012 in Poznan was quick to tell the differences between organising the World Cup and the Euro 2012 tournament.

“The World Cup starts off with 32 teams, there are 64 matches played in 10 cities,” Prymus says, noting that “it is a massive logistical undertaking as the teams were not pinned down to any one city.”

Poland will host two play-off groups in the Euro 2012 tournament, with each group further divided between two cities. “From our primary analysis, Poznan will be linked to Gdansk, with Warsaw being connected to Wroclaw,” Michal Prymus said.

Even though the organisation of the World Cup in South Africa was at a very high level, Prymus concludes that the city of Poznan will chiefly draw on the experience of the UEFA Euro tournament in Austria and Switzerland in 2008 as well as the World Cup in Germany which took place in 2006. (jb)
